Boomer in Motion!

Just bits of Boomer trivia...

Boomer is afraid of the vacuum and mop. He hides between the big blue chair and the ottoman when I'm using either one of those. And then when I vacuum right there, he goes into the foyer.

We've been trying to get him to go on real walks, instead of just outside the house to take care of business. He's a bit stubborn about it - maybe lazy, maybe just a puppy - but I've got 40+ years of stubborn on him. :) So far his walks are a little shorter than a quarter mile. He does come home hot and exhausted. I'd be both of those, too, if I walked outside in 80+ degree humid weather for 20-30 minutes while wearing a fur coat. No wonder he balks.

One of the first days we had Boomer home, I leaned down, clapped my hands and then held them out and said, "C'mere Boomer" and he walked over and put his both of front paws one in each of my hands. He didn't even jump up, just kind of sat up and then lifted his paws. We can't get him to do it again, but it was cute and funny.

Apparently the straw rug in the foyer was made to be a puppy chew toy. Once we get him past this stage, we'll be getting a new rug out there. :)

May 31, 2009 - Boomer gets a Faux-Hawk

He's already got the dog collar, so now we just need to pierce his ears.

May 30, 2009 Boomer in the pool!

Frank and Isaac put Boomer on the float and pulled it into the pool. He seemed to want to get off the float but at the same time, didn't want to get into the pool. Isaac eventually held him in the water and Boomer doggie paddled to the side, with Isaac sort of holding him just in case.

When Boomer got out of the water, he looked pretty funny. His head was still dry and fluffy, so it looked huge compared to the rest of his soggy body.

Sarah had donated some of her own money to the World Wildlife Fund, and they sent her a stuffed elephant. Boomer quickly claimed it for his own. It's one of his favorite chew toys now.

May 21st - he's already growing!

Pics from May 21st

Boomer is getting used to his new food and he's growing like crazy. Of course, all that chewing on the carpet (and leaves and furniture) is bound to fill a puppy up, right?

He's definitely more fun to play with now. He's no longer the quiet shy puppy checking things out. And he's sleeping through the night. Yeah!

We're still working on getting him to consistently take care of business outside, of course. He'll have a few great days, and then some days where we just wonder what happened. :)

By the way... there won't be any pictures on this blog of Boomer with humans. We don't believe in posting human pictures on the internet. :)

Boomer is adjusting to life with his new family

He seemed a little quiet at first, but he's started to get playful. These pictures are from May 12th.

Boomer comes home!

Boomer came home with us on May 9th.

Can you believe he's going to be white (wheaten) when he grows up? That's his mother with him in the middle picture.

Choosing a puppy

Sarah had chosen our puppy's name before we even knew for sure when we would be getting a puppy. She did a search on Australian puppy names (she's moving go Australia some day, did you know that? :). At first she suggested Digger, but I pointed out that we need to be able to tell a puppy not to dig. Her second choice, Boomer, was a hit with everyone.

Sarah and I went to pick out a puppy on April 25th. Sarah chose the biggest most playful puppy. By the time she had chosen, all the puppies were very tired and taking naps. When we stood up to leave, the only puppy to raise his head and look at us was Boomer!
I'll be posting pics and info about our new Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier here.
